The roof deck at Hotel Viking – is an amazing vantage point from which to sit back, relax with friends and take in the panoramic view of America’s “first resort”. Open every day from May 22 through September 30, the Top Of Newport is a haven for guests, town folk and visitors from miles around. It’s a fun, convivial spot to have cocktail coolers and refreshing frozen drinks including, ‘Blue-cumber’, ‘Gingerita’ and 'Viking Green Tea'; accompanied by chilled plates such as Chilled Malpuque Oysters; Narragansett Littleneck Clams; Lobster Club 'Sliders'; or A Charcuterie Tasting. Top Of Newport features live entertainment throughout the summer, highlighting local Rhode Island musicians on Fridays from 5 to 9 p.m, Saturdays and Sundays from 4 to 8 p.m.

- Monday through Friday, 4:00 to 10:00 PM
- Saturday and Sunday, 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Summer 2009 Roster of Musical Acts
- The Conny Williams – Bobby Ferreira Trio has been around for over 15 years. The trio, composed of Conny Williams on guitar, Bill Miele on bass and Bobby Ferreira on piano, has played in and around the Rhode Island area, performing mainly jazz and jazz standards.
- Rick Costa Latin Jazz Trio - Latin and Brazilian jazz with Rick Costa on drums; Saun Farias on bass; Rebecca Cline / Artie Marco Jr. / Andy Mcwain / Willie Myette on piano; Tom Pasquerilli on acoustic guitar; Tony Cuelo on flute and reeds; Artie Marco on vibes; Hillary Noble on sax and percussion (depending on appearance dates)
- The Lois Vaughan Jazz Trio, with Lois Vaughan on keyboards, Dennis Pratt or Genevieve Rose on string bass, and Dennis Cook on sax and flute, plays classic jazz, standards, and Latin music, including the music of Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Antonio Carlos Jobim, and Duke Ellington, to name a few. The group plays regularly in Newport and the Southeastern New England area. (Dennis recently toured the USA with the Artie Shaw Band, and has played with the Boston Pops. Genevieve has toured with the Sammy Kaye Orchestra and also with jazz singer Sheila Jordan.)
- The Bonnie Strickman Trio, comprised of Newport and NYC-based singer Bonnie Strickman, bassist Paul Del Nero, and pianist Chris Taylor or guitarist Scott Free, performs elegant, timeless jazz standards and ballads.
- Caribbean Candy is a Newport-based contemporary high-energy instrumental trio with John Monllos on guitar, Art Manchester on sax, flute, and clarinet, and Steve Simmons on percussion, vocals, and sax.
- The MSD Quintet is a contemporary jazz ensemble from Newport, RI. Performing their original compositions, as well as the music of jazz legends of the past and jazz artist in the present, MSDQ brings a tasteful fusion of musical styles supported by various rhythmic grooves. The traditional jazz quintet instrumentation of MSDQ captures the eclectic sounds of jazz, bringing an excitement to each performance.
