~One Bellevue Bartender Wins Winterfest Hot Drink Challenge~
Newport, RI (February 25, 2008) -- The Hotel Viking and One Bellevue Restaurant & Lounge celebrate bartender, Coleen Kempenaar, on her recent success at Newport Winterfest. Kempenaar’s entry for the Hot Drink Contest at the Red Parrot, “Coleen's Hot Spiked Chocolate with a Little on the Side' was the first place winner. Kempenaar’s trophy will hang prominently in the Lounge for the next year.
The winning recipe is as follows:
6oz. Cayenne Spiced Hot Cocoa
1/2 shot Patron XO Café
1/2 shot Stoli Orange
Topped with Grand Marnier hinted with Fresh whipped cream
Garnished with powdered orange peel
Dark chocolate habanero chocolates on the side
Dark chocolate orange on the side
Chocolate-dipped candied orange peels on the side
All peels, chocolates and hot chocolate in the winning drink recipe were sourced from Garrison Confections, located in Providence.
The team at Hotel Viking and One Bellevue are familiar with success at these competitions. As participants in Newport’s numerous events, the Viking team won 1st Place in the 2007 Newport Winter Festival’s Chili Cook-Off, and the team’s New England Clam Chowder took 3rd Place in the prestigious Annual Newport Great Chowder Cook-Off in 2006. Chef Kevin Thiele was a featured chef in the 8th Annual Kinsale Ireland Festival of Fine Food in March 2007 and will be featured in 2008 as well. The organization is is also involved with Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale to help end childhood hunger in Rhode Island.
